Impulse Purchase of the Week – 12/19

Does your sweetie have a sweet tooth? If you’re hard pressed for a tasty, last-minute Christmas gift, let us introduce you to Sweet Kiss’s locally made, hand-rolled brigadeiros.

What’s a brigadeiro, you ask? “Brigadeiro is the heart of Brazil. It is the most popular and loved dessert in Brazil since 1945 when it was created by a group of women,” says co-owner Jessica Antunes. “They needed to raise money for the presidential campaign of Brigadier Eduardo Gomes. Eduardo Gomes didn’t win the election but brigadeiros won everyone’s heart—and palate.”

Antunes, along with her mother Regina, have been making homemade brigadeiros since Antunes was a baby. “We didn’t start the business until 2015 when we decided to share our sweet treasure with KC,” she says. While there are many variations on the theme, the most decadent versions are made of condensed milk, cocoa powder, butter, and chocolate sprinkles covering the outside layer. It’s deliciously rich. “You can’t have a party without brigadeiros,” Antunes says. “You don’t need a cake, but you must have brigadeiros.” You heard it here first!

Conveniently priced at $2 each, choco-holics can find them at Cosentinos (Downtown, Brookside, and Overland Park). They are also available thru Shatto Home Delivery Service and the Sweet Kiss online store.
