A Glass Jar Revolution is Brewing at a Pendleton Heights Coffeehouse

PH Coffee is the quintessential neighborhood coffee stop—cozy, welcoming, and filled with deliciously straightforward café delights. The shop frequently hosts pop-up events supporting local theater artists and nonprofit organizations around the city, and the atmosphere of community support and cycle of generosity is everpresent at the tucked-away Pendleton Heights café.

Adding to its charm, PH Coffee has decided to ring in 2024 with a new way of doing business. Sustainability is top of mind for the nearly five-year-old store, starting with a glass jar program. PH Coffee will no longer offer disposable or “single-use” cups, opting for glass jars which can be returned for a drink credit or reused on a future trip. Ceramic mugs will still be available, as they always have, for beverages enjoyed inside the café. Customers will also be welcome to bring their own to-go cups (but we all know how easy it is to forget them—or make an impromptu stop.)

Reducing waste seems top of mind for many local and national retailers. Café owners and other coffee connoisseurs are uniquely primed to combat climate change due to its effects on coffee farms. Similar moves have been made previously by other local businesses, including Oddly Correct, which began its glass jar program in 2019. The innovation and dedication of local independent coffee shops strike a hopeful chord for the future.
