New Year, Dry Vibes: An Event for the Sober-Curious

You don’t need alcohol to have a good time. The new year brings out the sober-curious in all of us with the annual resurgence of “Dry January,” when resolutions and holiday burnout might leave you wondering about living a non-alcoholic lifestyle.

Dry Vibes 2024, a specially curated sober-curious event, is returning for its second year on January 13. Last year’s inaugural event was presented by Sarah Pretorius and Kayla Mason, co-founders of SipSteady, alongside Drew Davis of Gem Life + Bar. The success of the event and growing interest in low- or no-alcohol drinking options are bringing them back for round two.

It’s no secret that Shawnee’s Wild Child has been making names and setting trends in Kansas City’s low-ABV scene, and Dry Vibes 2024 includes an exclusive non-alcoholic cocktail-making workshop with Wild Child owner and recipe virtuoso, Jay Sanders. The rest of the day includes a morning sound bath, faux mimosas and brunch bar, a daytime dance party, and over 20 non-alcoholic brands to sample, all hosted by Paradise Garden Club

Dry Vibes is for everyone—sober or not. The wellness perspective offered by KC locals Pretorius and Mason centers around authentic connections, and they’re well-suited to spread the message through their agency, SipSteady. Dedicated to building up the dry economy, SipSteady is going all in on the non-alcoholic industry with planned expansion further into Kansas City as well as Philadelphia and Houston. If all goes well, January might not be the only month that’s celebrated dry.
