It’s Peters Clothier’s Homecoming Celebration and You’re Invited

The beloved haberdashery brings back its family name in an exciting new store.

“The timing couldn’t be better,” says Jerry Arvanitakis, giving a tour of the Peters Clothiers store a few days before its grand opening. You might say it’s a reopening. “We’re bringing back the original name in a new location at 124th and State Line Road just in time for fall, when men naturally think about updating their wardrobes.

“And people are going out again,” he says. “Whether they’re returning to the office or attending a social event, our clientele wants to look sharp and pulled together. For instance, we’re selling more sport jackets than ever before.”

Jerry says the surge in sales is two-pronged: a shopping hiatus due to the pandemic and trends in fashion, such as a focus on patterns and plaids. Add to that the new, contemporary fabrics with stretch. “These new garments with ‘give’ mean our clients don’t have to give up comfort for style.”

Many clients are picking up a few key pieces for fall, such as a quilted vest, sport coat or trousers. But Jerry mentions one longtime customer who brought in his recently graduated son to start a business wardrobe from scratch. “This guy loved everything he tried on,” Jerry remembers. The father treated the young man to a top-of-the-line sport jacket, several shirts and trousers, all tailored to fit perfectly. “He gave his son the best graduation gift in the world: Confidence.” Chances are that family tradition will continue with the next generation.

After all, Jerry understands the importance of family. He and his brothers, Spiro and George, along with sister, Andriana, are proud to continue the legacy started by their parents, Peter and Mary, for whom the store was named. All three sons learned from their father, how to cater to customers, whether they were coming in to update their business attire or casual attire.

Now the family is thrilled to be back in the suburbs. So are their customers, according to Jerry. “Over the years, we’ve built a strong base in the southern part of the city, including neighborhoods like Hallbrook and Loch Lloyd.

“Now they can stop by on their way home from work to get fitted or pick up a new item on their way to an event.” The free-standing building is built for convenience; customers can park right out front in spaces that are extra-wide.

The interior is just as special. It was designed by a premier store architect to have an open contemporary feel. The space showcases each designer and line. For example, we are able to showcase our popular upscale Byron Clothing collection. There are many models and styles to choose from. The hand crafted suits and sport coats will range from business dress to a more relaxed look. Also, we showcase clothing designers like Corneliani and Samuelson. They are beautiful clothing that is sure to impress. Our custom tailors are on site to fit your clothing.

For a casual look, the store has knit shirts, sport shirts and sweaters from Faherty. It has an elevated style and in fabrics that feel like cashmere and are lightweight “Our clients want to look great no matter where they are,” adds Jerry.  The Johnnie-O line of sportswear provides a fresh, young look to a man of any age.

Our denim lines complete the casual look. We have many different designers to choose from. Paige jeans is very popular and comes in 15 colors. The soft cotton stretches and is very comfortable. Also, Brax sportswear has an elevated look to complement a nice outfit. German pant maker, Meyer, has a stretch wool that resists wrinkling and is perfect for traveling.

In addition, the new store also has a custom clothing area. Customers can sit and relax while they select from 200 fabrics and styles. We will help the customer personalize their special one of a kind custom garment.

Serving customers for a lifetime. That’s the Peters Clothiers way; just as their father taught them. “We know our dad would be proud to see his name on the front of this beautiful new store,” Jerry says. “We can’t wait to show it off to all of our customers and to make new ones.”
