Treat Yourself: A Local Recipe to Celebrate Irish Coffee Day

It’s time for something a little dark, boozy, and decadent. National Irish Coffee Day is celebrated yearly on January 25, just in time to save us all from the weary winter.

Several people have claimed to be the creators of the modern recipe that emerged around the 1950s, but variations of the drink have appeared throughout the world for over 100 years, including in Denmark, Germany, and France.

Whiskey, coffee, and cream are the base ingredients in every modern Irish coffee, but the preparation can vary depending on your choice of coffee and brewing preference. Treat yourself to this classic and creamy drink, and don’t let anyone tell you it’s the same with whipped cream over fresh—they’re wrong.

Restless Spirits released Sons of Erin, a ten-year Irish whiskey finished in rum barrels, this November and is debuting a classic Irish coffee recipe to match. The whiskey is a collaboration between Restless Spirits and the Great Northern Distillery of Dundalk, county Louth, in Ireland.

Grab an Irish coffee glass and enjoy this traditional treat.
