The Unfinished Business of Democracy: Lincoln, Wilson and the Issue of Race

February 21, 2023 @ 6:00 PM CST

Free

Abraham Lincoln and Woodrow Wilson are two presidents who led the nation in fighting for a united democracy in wars of unexpected magnitude and duration. Wars that each changed the nation. Wars in which Americans, all, served and sacrificed in support of the U.S. Constitution and “to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.”

Lincoln and Wilson led with high ideals and oversaw many successes. But both presidents addressed the issue of race in ways that had serious consequences – intended and unintended – and left unfinished business. Join Dr. Chris Capozzola, Dr. Randal Jelks and Dr. Kate Masur in a conversation on presidents, American history and democracy.
