Impulse Purchase of the Week – 7/25

You know what they say—everything old is new again. And in this case, it’s ’70s-esque, kitschy-fun iron-on patches. It doesn’t get much more old-school than that.

The ever-creative team at Ampersand Design Studio came up with the retro-rainbow motif. It’s a hand-drawn script—not a font like you might think—that owners Morgan Georgie and Carrie Kiefer designed a few years ago. They applied it to several formats—T-shirts, glassware, enamel pins and the embroidered iron-on patch. Even better? They’re produced here in KC.

Seems sales of the patch have been through the roof. Plus, given the inexpensive $10 price, it makes for a perfect gift. “We love all of the options you have with an iron-on! Jackets, backpacks, hats—we could go on!” according to their website.

Find ‘em in Ampersand’s People online shop or their shop in the Made in KC Marketplace on the Plaza. They’re also in several shops around town—like Souvenear (at the airport and Union Station), The Bunker, Mid Coast Modern, and Westside Storey to name a few.
