Gooooooo Royals!
Given that Thursday is the Royals opener, we figured our Impulse Purchase of the Week should be true and blue. Good thing the fine folks at Aramark unveiled a whopping seven new concession items this year. But of course, we zeroed in specifically on one of ‘em.
Behold the Brisket Topped Tots! It combines all the things KC loves: carb-ecue and cheese. Or as the menu describes it: Tater tots, smoked brisket, white queso, barbecue sauce, and green onions. ($12)
We hit up Troy McKenna, the general manager of Aramark at Kauffman Stadium, for the skinny. Or not so skinny on their new “Tot-chos.”
Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind this new dish and what it brings to the bullpen, er, table?
TM: “We’re always trying to develop new menu items that meld favorite tastes. With the Brisket Totchos you get the classic tater tot topped with classic KC brisket that is smoked in-house.”
Um, what’s the calorie count? Or somewhere in the ballpark? (Pun intended.)
TM: “If you need to ask, you may be better off going with the Strawberry Spinach Salad!”
‘Fess up … do you have a favorite new concession offering this year?
TM: “I never like to play favorites and am proud of the variety our menu offers, but I will say our new Bullpen Burger concept in right field is worth trying. Bullpen Burger will feature a diner-style angus smash patty with LTO and a secret sauce. It’s offered as a single, double, and triple patty. It’ll also offer classic fries and hand-made milkshakes.”
