This Mega-Mansion is Back on the Market—And Buzz is Steadily Building

A sprawling—and we mean sprawling—mega-mansion recently went back on the market near Lake Quivira, and it’s garnering an obscene amount of attention. Why? The luxurious castle-esque property is noteworthy because, well, it’s a steal at close to $11 million.

Turns out—according to The Wall Street Journal—the “Spirit of Avalon” estate cost as much as $30 million to build. If you’re a bargain shopper, this might be just the right investment for you—as it’s down from its original listing price at $11.8 million just a year ago. (In case you were wondering, there are currently only three homes listed for sale in the metro for over $10 million. Two have been on the market for over a year. Also, we asked a couple of realtors if any $10+ million houses have sold in the last few years—nada.)

Located at 5225 Renner Road and tucked inside a private, gated community, the behemoth 17,755-square-foot house is reminiscent of European mansions. “It’s definitely not for the average home buyer, but it’s a stunning property,” says realtor Rosemary Salerno of Keller Williams Northland Partners, LLC. “You’d never need to leave home so you’ll save money on going out—and that way you can afford the estimated $50,000 monthly payment.”

Per the endless listing, the opulent grounds include—among other amenities—a 35-foot-tall grotto and a 30-foot-tall outdoor waterfall as well as indoor access to a 30-foot deep pond (which offers waterfalls and scuba diving tunnels.)

And while you’ll need a golf cart (or two) to traipse around the spacious 15 acres, the 7-bedroom, 14-bath abode itself isn’t too shabby. Built in 1993, the owners added a library addition in 2002. The elaborately designed grotto took three years to complete, wrapping up in 2003.

Need several commercial-grade kitchens? Check. How about a two-story office or gigantic rec room? Check. Hot tub, saunas, and steam rooms? Yup. And, as we mentioned, if you’re an outdoorsman, there are miles of paved walking (or golf-cart) paths to explore the grounds of trees, gardens, water features, statues, and wildlife!

And—bonus!—it’s super secluded. “With the pandemic and the uncertainty, I see of lot of people in a variety of price points looking to move out of the city on acreages,” says realtor Sarah Page of Page Homes KC. “It has a private lake for boating, club house, tennis courts. Couple that with the home itself—and someone could stay at home in their own private oasis, safe and sound from the troubles of the world.”
