Creative Intersections August 13-14

Owen/Cox Dance Group kicks off the 2022-2023 season with its annual Creative Interactions, with free performances of new works from seven new and returning local choreographers: cofounder James Kirby Rogers, Alexis Borth, Emily Mistretta, Haley Kostas, Kristopher Estes-Brown, Sophie Hod, and Olivia Emert.

Adult Field Day August 13

Many remember the excitement leading up to annual field days growing up, and now it’s time to experience field day fun as an adult. Round up a team of eight to ten and head to the pitch at Children’s Mercy Park for team games such as speed Jenga, team trivia, relay races, soccer darts, and distance bags.

Cafe Cà Phê Grand Opening August 13

After nearly a year of fundraising, and over $75,000 invested by the Kansas City community, Kansas City’s favorite Vietnamese coffee shop, Cafe Cà Phê, is moving from a pop-up format to a brick-and-mortar shop in Columbus Park. The grand opening begins at 10 a.m. with speeches from Mayor Quinton Lucas and founder and owner Jackie Nguyen. Then, enjoy dragon dancing, a pop-up market featuring Asian American Pacific Islander vendors, music, giveaways, and of course, coffee.

Greater KC Iris Society Annual Plant Sale August 13

Looking for the perfect iris plant to add to your home? At this sale, you’ll find contemporary and historic iris plants grown by area club members. Regular tall bearded iris will be $5 each or five for $20. Premium iris (newer introductions and award winners will be $8 each or three for $20. There will also be some Louisiana iris, pseudatas, and medians.
